Dolly The Cat Wins Mayor Peduto's Endorsement With "Fix America" Campaign

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Her campaign slogan promises to "Fix America."

Have you heard there's a new candidate, and she's from right here in Pittsburgh?

Mayor Bill Peduto has already approved her message.

"I'm here today to endorse Dolly the cat for the Cat President of the United States of America," Mayor Peduto says in his endorsement video.

Okay, so maybe Dolly the cat can't run for the office of President of the United States, but she is the new face of a worthy campaign.

Several local animal advocacy groups and shelters have launched the "Vote Dolly for Cat President of the United States" movement to raise awareness about pet homelessness.

Dolly, once a homeless cat, now makes her home at a local business, WearWoof. Located in the North Hills, in the McIntyre Square shopping complex, the non-profit is a second-hand store with its proceeds going to local animal shelters.

WearWoof, along with the Animal Rescue League, the Western Pa. Humane Society, the Homeless Cat Management Team and other groups are organizing the effort to "Fix America."

"Fix" in the sense of getting more pets spayed and neutered.

"Dolly's 'Fix America' platform will save thousands of pets throughout Pittsburgh by partnering with the Western Pa. Humane Society and their spay and neuter program," Mayor Peduto says.

If they can reach their fundraising goal of $250,000, it would be "the largest single spay-neuter fundraiser in Pittsburgh history."

The money would help local shelters spay and neuter up to an additional 5,000 animals per year.

So, as they say in her campaign video, "A vote for Dolly is a vote to end pet homelessness."
