Matt Cooke Show: Friday's Visit To Boston Will Be 'Heart-Wrenching'
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pittsburgh Penguins' winger Matt Cooke checks in with his weekly appearance on Vinnie & Cook on Sportsradio 93-7 The Fan.
The Penguins are on a roll as the playoff approach, which pleases Cooke greatly.
"We just really believe in the way that we play," Cooke says. "We've really taken the approach that the last eight games are our last prep for the playoffs. More important than a win or a loss is making sure that our game is styled in the way we need it to be heading into the playoffs."
It was announced Thursday afternoon, that the Pens had recalled forward Steve MacIntyre from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. Ray Shero made the announcement.
As for his thoughts on Montreal's P.K. Subban, Cooke says, "When he sticks to playing the game, I think he's one of the better defensemen. Unfortunately, he likes to do a lot of extracurricular stuff that builds your opinion on him. Last night he was called out on it."
Cooke looks ahead to Pittsburgh's next game, as the Penguins head to Boston for a Friday night meeting with the Bruins. Cooke is counting on an emotional scene as that city continues to cope and heal from the Boston Marathon attacks.
"Your thoughts and prayers go out to everybody that's been affected by the tragedy that happened," Cooke said. "It adds a heightened emotion to the game. It's going to be heart-wrenching to go out on the ice in Boston just because of the circumstances that are surrounding that city right now."
Cooke also weighs in on the contributions of his newest teammates, reveals whether he'd like a game or two off to rest before the playoffs, and explains why he's not thinking about returning to Ottawa for the first time since his hit on Erik Karlsson.
