Matt Canada: 'Pitt Did Everything They Could Do'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Pitt's offensive coordinator helped take the team to new levels this year, but after just one season as the school's signal caller, Matt Canada has accepted the same position with the LSU Tigers.

Canada took some time to call in to 93.7 The Fan's Starkey and Mueller Show to talk about the decision and how hard it was for him.

"Pitt did everything they could do," Canada told us when asked about the efforts made by the university to keep him from leaving.

"I want to be very appreciative and grateful to them. Mr. Barnes and Chancellor Gallagher and Coach [Narduzzi] certainly all did what they could do to make it very, very hard to leave."

With the Pinstripe Bowl still left on Pitt's schedule, Canada told us why he wanted to stick around to coach his team one last time.

"I wanted to do it, I believe finishing things are a big deal and finishing where you are, finishing what you started and it was important to me...I talked to Duzz [Pat Narduzzi] and he wanted the same thing."

One concern among the fan base is what the loss of Canada could do to their recruiting efforts and he was asked if he would agree that his departure could cost Pitt players.

"I don't think they're going to," Canada said. "I know those players have all talked to Coach [Narduzzi] and our program is what it is. It's Pat's program. I wasn't anything but one of the nine assistants on the team, I'm really not that big of a deal."
