Masked Man Robs Verona Dunkin' Donuts
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating a bold early morning robbery at a local Dunkin' Donuts shop.
It happened before dawn in Verona, when police say the suspect walked donut shop demanding money.
"Approximately 7 this morning, a black male entered the Dunkin' Donuts with an automatic handgun," Verona Police Chief Ron McLemore said. "The suspect was covered with a ski mask, dressed in all black, told the employees, 'get down, this is a robbery.'"
The normally busy donut shop did not have any customers at the time, but a shaken employee hugged her grandfather in the parking lot after the robber left.
"He walked around the counter calmly," McLemore said. "They basically handed him a small amount of currency, he left with that."
In a matter of minutes, the robbery was over and the suspect made away with the money. Police immediately reviewed the surveillance video, but it did not reveal much.
"From what we can tell from the video tape, it's all covered," McLemore said. "There's no way to identify the suspect, you could just barely see his eyes."
Throughout the morning, customers showed up only to be turned away as officers gathered evidence and interviewed the employees.
Police don't have a very clear description of the suspect, but say the person was possibly black and between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 5 inches tall.
