Mars Area High School Closed After Bomb Threat
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Students were evacuated from Mars Area High School Monday morning after the school received a bomb threat.
In a letter sent out to parents, district officials say the closed the school out of precaution and sent students to the middle school.
Adams Township Police were called to the school to do a sweep of the building and part of Route 228 was reportedly closed while they investigated.
District officials say in light of the threat, all evening activities at the high school have been cancelled.
"Mars Area School District strives to remain proactive in the protection of its students, faculty and staff members," Superintendent William Pettigrew said in the letter. "Thank you for your patience and cooperation as the District works to resolve this matter."
Pettigrew also says the high school will have increased security Tuesday and a will conduct another sweep of the school before classes start.
The district also says students were dismissed from the middle school, but those who drove to school are still at the high school. Officials are trying to figure out how those students can get their vehicles and drive home.
