Mariners Manager McClendon Goes On Hat-Kicking Tirade Following Ejection
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates may remember Lloyd McClendon.
McClendon played for the Pirates from 1990-94 and managed the team from 2001-05.
In case you didn't know, McClendon is now the manager of the Seattle Mariners and he wasn't too pleased during Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees.
Alex Rodriguez stepped into the batter's box with a runner on second and two outs in the top of the third inning. The game was still scoreless.
A check-swing by Rodriguez on a 3-2 pitch set off both McClendon and catcher Mike Zunino.
Zunino appealed the check-swing to first base umpire Will Little, who indicated that Rodriguez had not offered at the pitch.
Zunino lost his cool and was subsequently ejected.
Then, McClendon came charging out of the dugout and barely made it to Little before also being tossed.
However, McClendon was going to get his money's worth. He made his way around the diamond berating Little, home plate umpire Mike DiMuro and third base umpire Tony Randazzo.
He also threw his hat and kicked it around a bit during the ordeal. Eventually, he walked off the field to a standing ovation from the Seattle crowd.
Once play resumed, Mark Teixeira hit an RBI double to put the Yankees up 1-0.
Adding insult to injury, the Yankees won 5-3 in 11 innings.

This isn't the first time McClendon has lost his cool in spectacular fashion during a game.
Pirates fans may remember McClendon being ejected during a game in 2001 against the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park.
In that instance, McClendon came out to argue a play at first base. After losing the argument and being ejected, he ripped first base out of the ground, walked to the dugout and threw it down the runway.
A grounds crew member eventually came out to install a new base and was subsequently booed in a mocking fashion by fans.
