Many Retailers Opening On Thanksgiving, Expanding Hours
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- More stores are opening on Thanksgiving or expanding their hours.
For the first time ever, Macy's will open its doors at 8 p.m. and stay open until 10 p.m. Friday.
JCPenney is also opening at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, and so is Sears.
Times vary at Walmart stores.
For instance, the Walmart in North Fayette will stay open 24 hours.
Target will open at 8 p.m., an hour earlier than last year.
Toys 'R Us will open at 5 p.m., three hours earlier than last year.
Most Best Buy stores open doors at 6 p.m.
Finally, Kmart will do what it did last year and open at 6 a.m. Unlike last year, it will stay open the entire day and not close until 11 p.m. Friday.
Some people hate the trend.
Marlene Bezila, of Mt. Washington, says stores should remain closed so that employees have time to spend with their families.
"I think it's a horrible idea," said Bezila. "I think people should be with their families on the holiday. It's okay opening after midnight when people get a chance to be with their family, but let them have time with their family, don't make them work."
But other people, like Briyanka Kapoor, say shopping on Thanksgiving is fun, and she enjoys spending her holiday that way.
"It's a very good thing. It's fun," Kapoor said.
