Many Feel Blast From Explosion At W. Va. Gas Plant
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Officials are investigating after an explosion at a natural gas processing plant in West Virginia.
The explosion happened around 1:20 a.m. at the Dominion Energy Plant in Marshall County, W. Va., according to CBS affiliate station WTRF in Wheeling.
The station reports that residents in nearby Clarington, Ohio, could feel the shockwave from the blast.
No employees were injured, says WTRF.
Officials with Dominion Transmission say the fire was confined to a small area and allowed to burn itself out.
However, they did shut down roads and evacuate homes and businesses as a precaution.
"The fire's under control," W.Va. Emergency Management Director Tom Hart told WTRF. "What they're trying to do now is right now let the product burn off, and the fire departments are working to keep the area around where the fire is at, to keep it cooled down."
Dominion is still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
The evacuees have returned home.
