Man With Gun Robs Latrobe CVS, Takes Off With OxyContin
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A robber was after one thing at a local CVS Pharmacy in Westmoreland County, and it was not cash.
Police said the suspect walked into the Latrobe CVS shortly after it opened Thursday morning and demanded a powerful painkiller.
A surveillance video shows the suspect casually walking up to the pharmacy window around 9:40 a.m. Thursday, but it didn't take long for him to get aggressive, lunging at the technician with a gun in hand.
"He leans over the countertop; he points the gun at the clerk. Very bold, very brazen. He has his own bag that he brought to the store. He obviously thought this out very well what he was going to do," said State Trooper Steve Limani.
The technician got the store's OxyContin from the pharmacist, which police describe as a significant amount. The suspect then walked casually out a rear fire exit with the pills.
Police say OxyContin is a powerful painkiller with a high street value.
"It's a very addictive and a very highly abused substance. Often it is used as a substitute for people that are addicted to heroin, and unfortunately they are unable to acquire heroin so they move to this OxyContin," said Limani.
The Latrobe CVS is located in a busy shopping center. Police are now hoping someone who saw the man will come forward with information.
"So we're hoping that maybe somebody saw this individual in a vehicle or saw him roaming around the store, and hopefully they can give us a phone call," Limani said.
The suspect is described as a white man about six-feet-tall with a husky build. If you didn't see him in the store but recognize him in that video state police would like to hear from you at the Greensburg barracks.
