Man To Stand Trial In Series Of Pleasant Hills Hit-&-Runs
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A man accused of nearly a dozen hit-and-run crashes in one afternoon will stand trial.
Stephen Roberts was silent as he walked past his alleged victims on the way into court Wednesday morning.
He is facing a number of charges, including DUI, in connection with a string of hit-and-runs on May 13.
According to police, the 29-year-old went on a dangerous path of destruction near Southland Shopping Center along Route 51 in Pleasant Hills.
Several vehicles were struck and 10 people were hurt including Pamela Amicarella.
"The fact that he hit me head-on and had the audacity to just back up and drive around me as if I was nothing, that really makes me mad," Amicarella said.
At court, Roberts waived the charges against him meaning he will stand trial.
"There is a low burden here. So, we know that it's going to get held at this point, looking at all the evidence so that's why we are going to waive," Roberts' attorney, Jim Crosby, said.
Crosby said Roberts' blood-alcohol level was .235 at the time of the crashes, which is more than double the legal limit.
"I'm still very, very angry, very angry. This gentleman didn't think any of these individuals out there. The way he was flying through that mall, he could have very easily killed someone," Amicarella said.
This is not the first time Roberts has been in trouble with the law. He has an extensive traffic and criminal record as well.
For now, he remains in the Allegheny County Jail.
