WILMERDING (KDKA) – A man was hit by car and killed early Monday morning in Wilmerding on the Tri Boro Expressway.
Allegheny County Police are still working to figure out the man's identity. Police said he was not carrying a driver's license, any credit cards, or anything else that could identify him.
"The county police on duty responded. They did indeed find a man who was suffering from massive trauma. Paramedics arrived, they pronounced the victim deceased at the scene," Lt. Andrew Schurman of the Allegheny County Police Department said.
According to police, witnesses saw the man walking in the street.
"From what we learned from other passing motorists, the gentleman walking in the center of the lane of travel in the left-hand lane," Lt. Schurman said.
Police said one of those witnesses tried to warn him.
"There was one person that even stopped and told him that he was in a dangerous position," Lt. Schurman said.
Police said a female driver hit the man in the 100 block of State Street around 4:45 a.m.
"The area where this happened is very dark, there's no street lights, so at night it's not well-lit. The victim was wearing all dark clothing," Lt. Schurman said.
According to police, the woman did not appear to be intoxicated.
"The person who struck the victim was very cooperative, stayed at the scene and was very cooperative with the officers. We do not believe that person was under the influence of any alcohol or drugs, that she was just on her way to work," Lt. Schurman said.
Police said the man who was killed smelled strongly of alcohol. The investigation is still ongoing but police said it is unlikely the woman will face any charges.
"I do not believe she will be charged with anything, but ultimately that will be determine by the District Attorney's Office," Lt. Schurman said.
County Police ask anyone with information about the man's identity or the accident to please call the police tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477).
