Man In Custody After Abducting 2-Week-Old Child
HIGHLAND PARK (KDKA) – A man accused of abducting his 2-week-old baby in Highland Park is now in custody.
According to police, the incident happened in the 6000-block of Stanton Avenue around midnight.
Officers initially went to the home to serve 32-year-old Justin Comans with a protection from abuse order after an argument with the child's mother.
When officers arrived they noticed a man inside open and quickly close a curtain on the second floor of the apartment building.
Officers were let into the building and knocked on the second floor apartment door. After receiving no answer, the officers forced entry into the apartment.
The kitchen window was open and police believe Comans fled the apartment through the open window, onto a garage roof before continuing on to a brick wall and eventually, the ground. All of this took place with Comans holding the 2-week-old child.
Comans was not found during the initial search of the area. An arrest warrant was then obtained for Comans.
Around 6:30 a.m., the SWAT team was called to help arrest Comans at a home in the 6000-block of Wiltsie Avenue.
Comans was taken into custody without incident and was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
The child was taken to UPMC Children's Hospital for evaluation. However, the child is not believed to have been injured in the incident.
Comans is facing a list of charges including, endangering the welfare of children, interference with the custody of children, recklessly endangering another person and kidnapping.
