'I Don't Want To Be A Casualty': Man Shot and Killed In Homewood North, Another Injured
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One man is dead and another was injured following a shooting in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood.
According to Pittsburgh Police, officers were called out to a shooting near the intersection of Mohler Street and Ferris Court around 9:45 Saturday night.
Neighbors said the shooting happened around the same time fireworks were going off.
"July the 4th, there is always somebody getting killed up here. Always on the 4th of July. Doesn't make any sense," neighbor Connie Street said.
Street didn't even know there was a shooting until police came up the road. She has lived on Mohler St. for 17 years but feels it's time to leave.
"I don't want to be a casualty up here walking to the store or have friends over and get shot," Street told KDKA. "It's sad because I'm so tired of these young brothers killing themselves over nothing."
Officers found a man with a gunshot wound losing consciousness. Police performed CPR until EMS arrived.
The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he later died.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified him as 32-year-old Justin Gomez of Turtle Creek.
"People are losing their sons, their fathers, their boyfriends all over nothing," Street said.
According to investigators, another man showed up at a hospital on his own with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and in stable condition.
He told officers he too was shot on Mohler St.
Connie Street feels like it's time for more security in the neighborhood to protect the children.
"They don't have the right to die because someone was shooting at someone else," she told KDKA's Chris Hoffman.
The Violent Crimes Unit Detectives are investigating.
