Man Killed Trying To Stop Washington Co. Bank Robber Remembered 1 Year Later

WASHINGTON COUNTY(KDKA) -- It's been exactly one year since 46-year-old Vincent Kelley was shot and killed by a fleeing bank robber in a South Strabane Township.

It was Father's Day in 2013 when Kelley jumped into the suspect's getaway car in a parking lot, and was shot by the suspect, as the robber drove toward Route 19.

Monday night he was remembered at a gathering near the spot where the shooting took place. Kelley's 20-year-old daughter, Sierra, broke down in tears as she talked about visiting her dad in the cemetery the day before.

The victim's sister-in-law, Suzanne Kelley, told KDKA-TV News "We're not going away until someone comes forward and this guy gets caught."

Washington Mayor Brenda Davis told the emotional crowd, "The city of Washington is still heartbroken until we, and the police here, can figure this thing out."

Police said the robber was wearing a mask and a floppy straw hat. His getaway car was a white, four-door, mid-sized sedan.

Anyone with information is asked to call South Strabane Police. A $50,000 reward remains unclaimed.
