Man In Serious Condition After McKnight Road Dragging Incident
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A man dragged along McKnight Road during Wednesday night's rush hour is in serious condition at the hospital.
Police are now looking into whether this incident started in the Ross Park Mall parking lot.
Ross Township Police are viewing whatever surveillance video they can from a bizarre incident Wednesday night.
A man was dragged down McKnight Road and suffered serious road rash and other injuries along the way.
"The victim, he did sustain significant injuries. They were able to question him briefly yesterday and I anticipate them speaking with him further today, depending on his condition," Ross Township Police Sgt. Ben Dripps said.
Police have good information that the incident between the victim and two white males in possibly a dark green SUV began in the Ross Park Mall parking lot and somehow the victim became entangled with the vehicle just down the road.
Police believe the man was dragged alongside the vehicle from Patrick Place, the mall entrance, about a quarter of a mile down McKnight Road, when the man was finally able to roll into the Matress World parking lot.
It was at Mattress World that witnesses watched in horror as the man came to a stop and the SUV kept going.
One witness, who did not want to be identified, called 911.
"I saw a vehicle traveling down McKnight Road and I saw a person hanging onto the side of the vehicle," he said. "I don't know. He was bleeding from his mouth and he actually had a head injury and he was pretty well banged up, scuffed up, his arms and his legs."
"He's lucky that this vehicle didn't strike him or another vehicle traveling down the roadway didn't strike him. His injuries are significant, but I believe they could have been much worse," Sgt. Dripps said.
Ross Township Police said they plan to re-interview multiple witness that have already come forward and are hoping that more turn up to help with the investigation.
Police are also reviewing surveillance cameras from businesses as well as traffic cameras that have been useful in previous investigations.
