Man In Hospital After Wild Ride Through West Homestead

WEST HOMESTEAD (KDKA) -- A man is in the hospital after he somehow lost control of his car and crashed on a West Homestead street overnight.

It happened at 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1300-block of Edgewood Drive.

The local man, in his 30s, smashed into Chuck and Amy Lippert's two cars first.

"I said no, I think somebody hit our cars because we were parked in front of our house," said Amy.

The driver didn't stop, even though after the first crash one of his wheels had flown off.

The man continued up the hill, going airborne at some points before his car sliced through a telephone pole, a stop sign, a light pole and several more yards and sidewalks.

Eight houses up from where he started, his car t-boned Janet Moore's car pushing in through her neighbor's fence, which finally stopped him.

"It was 4:30 in the morning. Thank God there was nobody out, but the guy had to be doing 80 miles an hour," said Chuck. "I mean, to lose a wheel and still travel 1,000 feet and stop by hitting another car, it's crazy, mind-blowing."

The man left the scene, but turned himself into police Saturday morning. He told police he has no idea what happened.

He was taken to the hospital with a concussion and numerous serious injuries.

Police do not believe alcohol was involved. They're testing his blood.

West Homestead Police are not releasing the man's name.

They say once he's released from UPMC Mercy Hospital they'll do a follow up interview with him to gain more insight into what happened.
