Man Facing Charges After Hitting 13-Year-Old With Car, Leaving Scene

BENTLEYVILLE (KDKA) -- A Washington County man is facing charges after allegedly hitting a teenager with his car and then leaving the scene.

Andrew Tomazin, 36, of Washington, is facing aggravated assault by vehicle and related charges.

Sierra Jackson, 13, was headed to a friend's house when it happened. She was walking on Main Street in Bentleyville when she saw Tomazin talking on his phone in a grocery store parking lot.

She made eye contact with him and when he didn't move, she began to cross the driveway. That's when Tomazin pulled out and allegedly hit the girl.

"I was standing. He just knocked me back to the road," said Jackson. "I was scared; I didn't know what to do. I just called my mom after."

She suffered injuries to her back, ribs and spleen.

The man apologized to the girl and took off.

Southwest Regional Police identified Tomazin a short time later because he was driving a van from his carpet cleaning company.

Tomazin initially told police he didn't see the girl and didn't hit her, but later admitted that he got scared and left the scene.

Tomazin was driving without a license because of a DUI.
