Man Charged With Bank Robbery After He Shows Up In Court For Traffic Violation
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Sometimes, you can't make these types of stories up.
Eric Wagner, 23, went to City Court for a traffic violation, but when sheriff's deputies made a routine computer check, they discovered there was a warrant out for him on a bank robbery charge.
He was placed in handcuffs and when he appeared before District Judge Eugene Ricciardi, the traffic charge was dismissed.
Judge Ricciardi said to the handcuffed Wagner, "You got bigger problems than this. I'd rather see you off the county tax rolls, and onto the feds."
Wagner was then jailed on $500,000 bond.
Investigators identified Wagner after they arrested another bank robbery suspect last month.
Sean Greene, 43, told detectives he had met Wagner only a few months before. Wagner told Greene, "I want to do what you do with banks."
According to court papers, Greene described Wagner as "an inexperienced criminal."
Greene said he was the getaway car driver when Wagner allegedly held up the Wesbanco Bank on Beechview Avenue on Dec. 21.
Greene was captured after a police chase the day after Christmas, and he admitted to robbing three South Hills banks.
