Man Charged In Community Activist's Death Ordered To Stand Trial
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The man charged in the death of a McKees Rocks community activist is now headed to trial.
Sean Overton is accused in connection with the fatal beating of Isaiah Dent over an alleged drug debt.
Dent's body was found severely beaten on his bathroom floor at the Hays Manor apartments last month.
In court, a witness testified that she had a conversation with Overton that explains what happened.
"The statement was that he had unfinished business with Isaiah Dent and that Isaiah Dent tried to play him for his money and gave him some bad marijuana," Mark Tranquilli, the prosecutor, said. "I mean that's obviously voicing a motive, and so that's important evidence in a case like this."
But Overton's attorneys say there is inconsistent testimony from the only witness in the case.
"No physical evidence whatsoever, no fingerprints and there was supposed to be a struggle in this bathroom. There's no DNA evidence. There's no physical evidence, nothing at all," defense attorney Blaine Jones said. "As far as we know that is the only witness that is present, an inconsistent, angry, jilted lover."
Overton is facing homicide and robbery charges.
A tampering with evidence charged was dismissed.
