Man Charged In 2003 Cold Case Headed To Trial
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man charged with a cold case murder from 2003 has been ordered to stand trial.
Jarrod Bullie once denied knowing the victim, but DNA evidence refutes that. However, the defense hopes that same evidence could help the defense raise doubt at trial.
Bullie is charged in the murder of Robin Sue Miller whose body was found at the site of an old steel plant in Beaver Falls falls.
She had been hit in the head with a rock.
At the time of the arrest Beaver County District Attorney Berosh said new DNA testing placed the defendant at the time of death with the victim.
But DNA found on her fingernails tied to Bullie isn't the only DNA found.
Defense attorney Blaine Jones says under her right fingernail, for example, is evidence from another person as well - and that testimony revealed the victim may have had many contacts with men as a prostitute.
"There's an unidentified male out there," said Jones. "There were two other suspects. This is not the man."
Still the judge ruled there is enough evidence to go to trial.
"This case is long on fanfare, but short on concrete evidence," says Jones. "It's just not there. Today the evidence is taken in the light most favorable to the commonwealth, but I'm very encouraged by everything that transpired today. There's three hours of very intense fact finding and we think it's going to help us tremendously down the road."
