Man With Gun Arrested Outside Nursing Home
BEAVER (KDKA) – An armed man was arrested outside of a Beaver County nursing home on Thursday.
Sheriff's officials say they took Larry Hicks into custody outside the Friendship Ridge nursing home in Beaver.
Hicks' gun permit had been revoked because authorities say a month-and-a-half ago he was allegedly on the grounds of the nursing home and threatened to shoot a resident's dog.
Back at the facility on Thursday, police say the 52-year-old Rochester man was armed with a .22 semi-automatic pistol and 18 rounds. He also allegedly had a knife.
Police say inside the nursing facility, he looked at a calendar and told a nurse: "15, 16, 17 - it's a good day for people to die, and I'm gonna get her today."
Who that person is, is not unknown.
Police say he was upset about the way his mother was being treated at the home. She has been a resident there since July 2011.
Police say when they approached Hicks he was sitting on a bench outside the nursing facility and went peacefully.
He is now at the Beaver County Jail facing numerous charges including terroristic threats, trespassing and a firearms violation.
Administrators at the nursing home say they plan to review security measures already in place and determine if they should be augmented.
