Man Arrested In Chicago For Theft Of Local Jeweler
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – One of three men accused of robbing a local jeweler has been arrested in Illinois.
Chicago Police say they found 30-year-old Oscar Rodriguez during a traffic incident.
A Chicago police officer stopped Rodriguez after watching him block traffic while standing in the middle of a street.
When the officers interviewed the man and checked his name, they learned that Rodriguez was wanted on an active warrant for a jewelry robbery in Pennsylvania.
Northern Regional Police confirmed that Rodriguez is one of three people wanted for stealing more than $1 million worth of jewelry back in May from a salesman in the parking lot of Grafner Brothers Jewelers in Pine Township.
A jewelry salesman told police that three men wearing masks and dressed in black approached him when he parked his car in the lot.
He told police one man had a knife. The salesman ran while the thieves broke a car window and grabbed a bag of jewelry.
Surveillance cameras on a CVS pharmacy nearby captured images of the men without their masks. Officials say another person came and picked them up after the suspects abandoned their car near a muffler shop.
Since then, Northern Regional Police have been working with the FBI. The active warrant for Rodriguez has been out for several months.
The two other suspects are still on the run.
