Man Arrested For Deadly Beating In McKeesport

MCKEESPORT (KDKA)- A man has been arrested and charged with murder in the deadly beating of a man in McKeesport.

Police were dispatched to the 2300-block of Walnut Street in McKeesport around 1:40 a.m. Saturday. Officers were told a man was down on the ground and a second man was beating him with a stick.

While on the way to the scene, officers encountered a man wearing camouflage pants and a black shirt. They identified him as 41-year-old Dustin Rice. Officers noticed he had a contusion on his head and appeared to be disheveled as if he was involved in a fight.

Rice also had an empty knife sheath on his belt and blood on his pant leg.

Rice told police that he was robbed by an individual at his tattoo parlor. After being treated at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Rice was interviewed by homicide detectives.

He told them that he was in his tattoo shop with Dennis Pence. Rice said he told the victim to leave the shop. A short time later, Rice said he was asleep in a tattoo chair when Pence returned and hit him in the head with a cane.

According to the criminal complaint, Rice said he began to fight with Pence and remembers pushing him out of the shop and fighting in the parking lot. After that, Rice said he didn't remember anything because he was drunk.

Police found Pence's body in the 300-block of 24th Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office observed blunt force trauma to Pence's head. They recovered a knife at the scene, as well as a large walking stick with a corkscrew end. There was blood on the walking stick.

Dustin Rice has been charged with criminal homicide in the case. He is being kept at the Allegheny County Jail.
