Man Arrested For Allegedly Firing Shots Near Carlow University
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man accused of firing shots near two universities in Pittsburgh is behind bars.
According to police, four shots were fired Saturday afternoon near the campuses of Carlow University and the University of Pittsburgh.
Around 4 p.m., a Carlow University Police officer was patrolling the area when the shots were fired. The officer saw the suspect, 21-year-old Jamone Watson, running on Terrace Avenue toward Chesterfield Road in Oakland.
According to the criminal complaint, Watson stopped for a moment, but then continued to run down Chesterfield Road. Eventually, he turned in front of Carlow University's Curran Hall on Fifth Avenue.
Witnesses told police they saw Watson drop the gun in a flower pot before running toward the Arby's. That's where University of Pittsburgh Police spotted Watson and held him until the Carlow officer made the arrest.
"It was a little bit scary. I don't live in the best area, but I still wouldn't expect anything like that to that caliber to hear gunshots this close to my actual street," University of Pittsburgh junior Nick Pelosi said.
Watson was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for stitches to his left eye for an injury suffered during the incident.
Watson told police that he did run, but he only had a cell phone on him. He is currently being held in the Allegheny County Jail.
