Man Arrested After Westmoreland Co. Pharmacy Robbery

NORTH HUNTINGDON (KDKA) - A Westmoreland County pharmacy was held up by a man with a hammer and plastic gun.

Police were able to make a quick arrest thanks to a phone call from a brave clerk.

The suspect walked to Norwin Pharmacy all the way from West Newton.

Employees saw him walk through the drive-through before rounding the corner and walking in the front door.

Joseph Carilli, 32, was wearing all black and his face was covered.

He allegedly told four girls who were working at closing time to get on the ground or he would kill them.

Carilli demanded Roxicodone, which is a generic form of the highly addictive painkiller oxycodone.

While three of the girls were bagging it up for him, another pharmacist made a run for it.

She was able to call police and told them a man was robbing the store. She said he was armed with a hammer and a gun.

Carilli ran into the woods behind the North Huntingdon Giant Eagle, where a K-9 unit tracked him down.

Police took him to the hospital on the way to jail because they believe he may have swallowed upwards of 30 pills at the scene.
