Man Arrested After Leading Police On Short, But Dangerous Chase
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police say it's lucky no one was hurt overnight when a man took off from a traffic stop and caused several crashes.
The chase only lasted a few minutes and a couple of blocks through Shaler and Etna, but was still very dangerous.
The driver, 28-year-old Corey Stevens, crashed head-on into one vehicle on Butler Street. The driver who was hit had to be treated on the scene for minor injuries, including a cut to the head.
Police first pulled Stevens over for speeding -- going 85 miles per hour in 35 mile per hour zone --but got him to stop.
However, when the officer asked him for ID, the Stevens turned the car back on and sped off.
"We just moved here two weeks ago ... it's crazy," said James Hudson.
Hudson was one of the unfortunate victims of Stevens' chase. Hudson came out around 2 a.m. to go to work and found his car smashed.
"I'm like, that's my car, but that can't be my car on the sidewalk," he said. "But it is my car on the sidewalk. I laughed. My wife was like, 'Why are you laughing?' and I said, ''Cause my car's on the sidewalk.'"
Police chased Stevens as he hit several cars and reportedly at one point stopped on Locust Street, got out of his car and hid on a porch.
That's where police found him and he was arrested. Police say they also found drug paraphernalia on Stevens.
Charges are still pending, but it's suspected he'll face DUI charges.
He's currently in the Allegheny County Jail.
