Man Arrested After Brentwood Standoff

BRENTWOOD (KDKA) - A man was arrested after a standoff ended peacefully in Brentwood Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the incident happened in the 100-block of Burdine Avenue around 3:45 p.m.

The suspect's girlfriend was looking to move out and returned to the home to gather more of her belongings. At that time, the suspect, Robert Salak, locked the door.

The SWAT team surrounded the residence after the woman called police claiming she'd been assaulted by a man.

When police arrived, Salak barricaded himself in the home. He refused to come out and told police he did not like them and did not want to speak with them.

Police also learned there may have been firearms inside the home.

"We considered him armed and dangerous. We didn't' take any chances. We had to evacuate several of the homes here - 911 helped us with that. Then the SWAT team came in, the negotiator spoke to him and we were able to come to a good conclusion and no one got hurt," Brentwood Police Chief Robert Butelli said.

He is currently being lodged at the Allegheny County Jail and is being charged with domestic violence and simple assault.
