Man Arrested, Accused Of Driving Car Into Crowd Of Wedding Guests
NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- A man is behind bars after investigators say he drove his car into a crowd of people, injuring two, during a wedding reception in Lawrence County Saturday night.
The wedding reception at the Cascade Park Dance Pavilion in New Castle was just ending when the evening was marred by violence in the parking lot.
According to New Castle Police, 20-year-old Justice Mackey is accused of getting into two fights, including one with his girlfriend, before he allegedly drove his car into the crowd.
"After he did a couple laps at a high rate of speed in his vehicle, he paused, according to the police report, and drove his vehicle at the group of people, only hitting two of the individuals," Officer John George, of the New Castle Police Department said.
One of the male victims was taken to Jameson Hospital in New Castle. The other was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.
Mackey was arrested at the scene.
"Subsequently, was charged with the appropriate charges, including aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, DUI, amongst others," said Officer George.
KDKA-TV's Bob Allen reports that Mackey was an uninvited guest at Chris and Cathina Forkey's wedding and reception.
"The reception was at one point over here, and the altercation took place a distance away from the actual reception," Officer George added. "So, it had nothing to do as far as a direct result with anything that happened at the reception itself."
The newlyweds didn't want to talk about the incident. Although, they admit it did ruin their special day. The couple has gone on their honeymoon.
Mackey is now behind bars in the Lawrence County Jail on $25,000 bond.
