Police: Man Threatened To Kill Woman In Dog Abuse Confrontation

SALEM TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A Westmoreland County man is facing charges for allegedly threatening to kill his wife, who confronted him about physically abusing their family dog.

According to police, the incident happened at the couple's mobile home in the 200-block of Hawk Drive in Salem Township on Tuesday.

According to investigators, it all started when the suspect got into a domestic dispute with his new wife, Jessica.

Surveillance video appears to show 31-year-old William Cochran Jr., of Export, hit the dog multiple times. He's accused of picking the animal up by its throat, slamming it to the ground, and then repeatedly kicking and punching the already injured animal.

The woman said when she confronted Cochran about the abuse, he allegedly threatened to kill her and the dog. According to the criminal complaint, Cochran repeatedly said, "I'll slit your throat."

When troopers showed up, officials say Cochran tried to hide in a bedroom in the trailer, fighting with law enforcement until they finally got a chance to handcuff him.

When questioned, police say Cochran admitted to threatening his wife and assaulting the dog.

He is facing a list of charges including cruelty to animals, simple assault and resisting arrest.

Cochran is now being held in the Westmoreland County Jail on $100,000 bond.
