Man Accused Of Firing At Police Pleads Not Guilty
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Daniel Ryan broke down in tears as his wife identified him from the witness stand on Thursday.
The 44-year old is charged with numerous counts of attempted murder of a police officer and aggravated assault.
He allegedly fired 17 shots at police from two handguns when they responded to a domestic situation at his home.
Dawn Ryan testified that her husband had been drinking for days. He was agitated and told her he had been thinking all day about killing her, and then taking his own life.
He told her not to call cops because he would kill anyone who came to the house.
Dawn Ryan escaped but her husband staged an hours-long standoff with police.
Troopers testified that they weren't injured but could hear bullets whizzing by just inches away.
The incident happened in November.
Daniel Ryan entered a plea of not guilty. He's being held on $500,000 bond.
All charges against Daniel Ryan were held for court. He is now headed to trial and has his formal arraignment in November.
The judge said there was "overwhelming evidence" to hold him for trial.
