Man Accused In Fatal Route 51 Crash To Stand Trial
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The man accused of causing a fatal crash on Route 51 last month is now heading to trial.
Police say 21-year-old Robert Freund failed a sobriety test.
Police say Freund was allegedly speeding and intoxicated when his car crossed a concrete median and slammed into the driver's side of an SUV on Saw Mill Run Boulevard back on Dec. 22.
James Posey, 60, of Brookline, was killed in the three-car crash.
Four other people, including Posey's three nieces, were injured.
Posey was a well-known businessman who operated several barbeque restaurants before retiring.
His wife believes justice will be served.
"We lost a man that was bigger than life," said Gaye Posey, James' wife. "He was bigger than we even knew he was. He impacted the community, the school, the churches, the people."
Freund will now stand trial for homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and other charges.
"Nobody wins at the end of this," said Casey White, the defense attorney. "Whether or not my client goes to state prison or he's found not guilty, nobody wins, and that's what's the shame of this whole thing."
