Major Road Construction Projects Coming This Weekend
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There are plenty of cones and barrels up around town, but PennDOT has saved the big-time closures and detours for the weekends when there aren't any major events.
With the Pirates out of town, this is the weekend for delays.
The chewed up concrete tells the tale and this weekend the bridge that carries the outbound Parkway over Business 22 is coming down. That means both sides of 22 in that area will shut down from 11 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday.
Traffic will use Route 48 to Old William Penn Highway, it's a two lane road that connects you right back to Business 22.
Drivers will also see more Crosstown closures; although this time, the ramp leading from the southbound side to the Liberty Bridge will shut down all weekend long with traffic detoured through downtown.
Over in Green Tree, the ramp leading from the inbound Parkway West to Greentree Road will shut down as part of an ongoing bridge project. Drivers will have to go down one exit and loop back around.
That ramp closure isn't the only thing going on in Green Tree this weekend. We'll also see traffic on Greentree Road down to a single lane all weekend long.
The good news is that work will wrap up at 8 p.m. Sunday night.
There's some better news for the Liberty Tubes. They're normally closed overnight, but PennDOT says they'll be open Friday into Saturday.
