Locals With Ties To Moore, Okla. Share Their Stories

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- As the tornado ground its way across Moore, Okla. yesterday West Mifflin native Mike Dojcak was in his office just east of the storm, knew his family was safe, but was surrounded by coworkers from Moore

"A lot of people around here there was a lot of crying going on around worrying 'cause they couldn't get ahold of anybody in their families," Dojcak said. "They had kids in daycare or school and didn't know where their spouses were or what their homes were like at the time."

As Dojcak found out at work today that several co-workers lost homes, and one was killed, his wife Janice -- who's originally from Squirrel Hill -- was home getting ready to go to work and watching the TV coverage.

"It's very sad, you watch the news and you cry there are dead people everywhere and no one has homes and you know it's very sad," Janice Dojcak said.

Back here at home, Marcellus shale driller John Jones was desperately trying to contact his family back in Moore, he left Oklahoma after the F5 twister in 1999.

"It's the same neighborhood and you can't imagine the fear you get when you hear the wind come up and you see a thunderstorm and now to see this happen it's just awful," Jones said.

Unable to get through and not waiting for phones to be restored, Jones got in his truck and headed to Oklahoma to try and find his relatives.

The angst of not getting through was equally frustrating for Steelers rookie quarterback Landry Jones.

"My wife is back in Oklahoma right now and cell phone service was down, internet was down so it's kind of hard to get in touch with people," Jones said. "But once the night went on, got to get in touch and make sure everybody was okay back home."

Dojcak is also waiting for word, he's the founder of the 500 Strong Steelers fan club of Oklahoma City, which meets on the edge of Moore. A lot of the club's members and displaced Pittsburghers live in the devastated town.

"I can guarantee you that I probably got quite a few people who were affected by this yesterday and probably lost homes," he said.
