Local Teacher Arrested, Accused Of Trying To Solicit Sex From Teen Girl
UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- A Fayette County teacher has been arrested and is facing charges after police say he allegedly arranged a meeting with a 15-year-old girl.
Police were waiting for 44-year-old Daniel McGarvey when he showed up at a mall in Bridgeport, West Virginia, on Friday.
According to investigators, the meeting was the apparent result of an ad McGarvey is accused of posting on a social media site trying to solicit sex from a minor.
McGarvey worked as the choir director at Laurel Highlands Middle School.
He has been a teacher in the district for four years.
"At this time, police have not notified us that they're going to be here to look at his computers, but we have taken precautionary steps to secure them, so when that time does arrive, they are secure and we have them accessible to the authorities," said Superintendent Jesse Wallace.
The Laurel Highlands School District says it doesn't think any of their students are involved in the case.
McGarvey will be suspended.
He is being held in jail on $25,000 bond.
