Local Stores Offer Inexpensive Gift Options
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- If you've been shopping for Christmas gifts but you can't seem to find anything that's both unique and within your budget, there's a solution to your problem. It's a website with free and affordable events around Pittsburgh.
Heather Walsh and Rachel Booth of LivingPittsburgh.com have come up with some great ideas.
They've found all kinds of gift options, many under $15, that you will be happy to give and people will be thrilled to receive.
One idea is to think outside the big box stores and think about giving the gift of an experience.
At REI Outdoor stores, you can get a membership for the whole family for only $20, which includes great discounts and other perks. The biggest deal: it lasts for a lifetime.
"That's forever. They have a huge climbing wall inside and on Fridays they even have Kinderclimb, which is geared for littlest climbers. So fun for whole family," said Rachel Booth, co-creator of Living Pittsburgh.
If you're thinking of relaxation instead of exercise, some places offer a massage doesn't break the bank. You can get a gift certificate for an hour-long massage for $40 at Body Bar or Massage Envy.
"This is a great gift for someone like stressed out Mom or someone who just needs to relax like me and makes a really affordable way to give someone a luxurious gift," said Living Pittsburgh's co-creator Heather Walsh.
If $40 is too much, how about going wine tasting for only $12 at Palate Partners in the Strip District? This is a great gift option for a couple that costs less than $25!
"We sample three of white and three red wines and educate people about them, regions from, taste profiles but in very casual way," said Deb Mortillaro from Palate Partners.
While you're there, they'll help you find some great wines for less than $15. Palate Partners has more than 80 to choose from that come from all around the world.
For a gift that keeps on giving, a subscription to local magazines is amazingly affordable.
Pittsburgh Magazine for two years is $25. Whirl Magazine has a deal where you can get a hotel gift voucher good at 55,000 hotels if you buy a subscription. They also offer a $25 gift card for a one-year subscription that costs $29 or a $50 gift card for a two-year, $49 subscription.
You can also give the gift of art with a Pittsburgh-themed drawing from Steel City Artist, where prints start at $15.
"If you have high-end taste and maybe not as high-end budget to spend and looking to get someone who likes designers things a gift, get gift certificates to local high-end consignment stores Ambiance, Designer Days or Savvy Fox."
Rachel and Heather have all the details about each of these gift ideas and a lot more on their website, LivingPittsburgh.com.
