Local Runners Return From Boston Marathon
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) -- Local marathon runners Kevin Brozyna and Leyah Valgardson joined KDKA Radio's Robert Mangino in studio to discuss their trip and participation in the Boston Marathon.
Brozyna finished the race 25 minutes before the bombs went off. He was 100 yards away from the finish line during the explosions.
Brozyna wasn't sure if the first explosion was a "celebratory explosion" or some kind of "firework" for the race, but when he heard the second explosion he knew it was a serious situation.
Valgardson wasn't able to finish the race because of the bombs, but she made a point to get in the extra miles to amount to the 26.2 needed to complete a marathon.
Both runners were lucky to be where they were when the explosions occurred. Valgardson stated "attendance will be larger" at he next Boston Marathon because marathon runners are a resilient group.
Listen to Robert Mangino weekdays from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on NewsRadio 1020 KDKA.
