Local Restaurant Expanding To North Huntingdon

NORTH HUNTINGDON (KDKA) -- Attention foodies!

A local restaurant is about to open its second location later this month.

"The Wooden Nickel" has been serving up tasty food in Monroeville since 1952, and now the restaurant and lounge is coming to North Huntingdon, Westmoreland County.

The restaurant's grand opening in Norwin Town Square is set for Thursday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m.

And there's a lot planned leading up to it, including a Family and Friends Night, an invitation-only Grand Tasting Night and a charity night.

The charity event benefits the Community Liver Alliance and Excela Health, and is being held the night before the grand opening on Oct. 22.

In a press release, Executive Chef Joe Bello said, "As a company, we love being able to give back to the community. In Monroeville, we have done events for Charlie Batch's Batch Foundation, Toys for Tots, the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank, Make a Wish Foundation and also a scholarship dinner for Gateway High School. For this charity night at our new location, we will be charging $25 at the door with all of those proceeds going back to the Community Liver Alliance and Excela Health."

The Wooden Nickel's newest location includes the main dining room, intimate cocktail lounge, banquet room and small meeting room.

Starting on Oct. 23, the restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

They are already accepting reservations for the new location. To make one, call 724-515-7839 or visit their website here.
