Local Mother Charged In Crash That Killed Daughter
SALISBURY, MD (KDKA) -- A New Kensington woman has been charged in a traffic accident that killed her 11-year-old daughter.
The family was vacationing in Ocean City, MD., and police say 38-year-old Tabitha Dobrzynski was impaired when she was behind the wheel.
The accident happened Sunday afternoon on the Route 13 bypass in Salisbury, MD.
"Went from the fast lane to the slow lane to off the shoulder," state police in Maryland said. "It appeared the vehicle had rolled several times."
Dobrzynski's 11-year-old daughter, Sophie, was killed. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the backseat of the Jeep in the one-vehicle crash.
"She was just a sweet, sweet girl," Ed Claypool, a neighbor, said.
State police in Maryland say Dobrzynski was impaired by a "controlled dangerous substance" at the time of the crash.
"Roadway seemed to be clear. From witness statements, it didn't appear that there was any vehicles that had swerved in front of her and cause her to run off the roadway," the officer said.
"We all make poor choices and that just happened to be one horrific …." Claypool said.
Dobrzynski remains jailed in Maryland on $35,000 bond. She faces charges including negligent manslaughter.
The father picked up the kids in Maryland Sunday night.
