Local Man Walks From Erie To Pittsburgh For Diabetes Research
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Mail carriers are used to walking long distances, in all sorts of weather.
However, one retired carrier went above and beyond for a good cause.
Forget walking a 5K or even a marathon. Bob Mandera, of the North Hills, tackled much more.
Over the weekend, he walked from Erie all the way to the McKnight Road Post Office here in Pittsburgh.

The three-day, 100-mile journey was exhausting, but Mandera has experienced the exhaustion before.
He's been taking the trip for 36 years to raise money for diabetes research.
"This all goes to diabetes research. It's over a million people in Pennsylvania with diabetes, 25 percent of our veteran population has it," Mandera said.
Mandera, a veteran himself, has a daughter with diabetes.
She was diagnosed at the age of five.
"If you think about everybody that you know, everybody knows someone that has diabetes," Mandera said.
Over the years, Mandera and his team have raised over $2 million.
He plans to continue the trek each year, contributing more and more.
If you want to help, you can also donate to Mandera's cause.
Donations will be accepted through Nov. 1, and can be made by mail to:
