Local Kids Put Own Twist On Christmas Story In YouTube Video
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The birth of Christ has been portrayed countless times on stage and screen.
But now, some kids from a North Side foundation have added their own touch with a five-minute video that's now on YouTube.
The story of Jesus has been told on wider screens, but rarely with such innocence.
The familiar roles are played by kids from a nonprofit foundation called Urban Impact.
Co-founder Tammy Glover is director of performing arts for Urban Impact.
"We had a lot of naptime for the toddlers. And we ran out of naptime at one point," said Glover.
She and her pastor husband have unofficially adopted dozens of kids during the North Side group's 20 years.
"The kids that have been in our home are Urban Impact kids, the first generation. And now their children that are in the movie are second generation Urban Impact kids," Glover said. "We had them tell the Christmas story as they remembered, and what their highlights were."
Glover's 18-year-old son played the donkey. But the little ones got all face time.
"Directing toddlers is like herding cats," Glover said. "Just when you think you have them all together, they just go fffft!'" she says.
The entire video was shot in the North Side neighborhood of Fineview. The kids managed to get into the Christmas spirit, even though it was taped on a hot day in August.
"It was hard sometimes, but it was always a joy and always fun," Glover added.
As for seeing themselves on YouTube," Glover says of the kids, "They love it."
