Local Fugitive Tracked Down, Arrested In Ohio
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A local fugitive was tracked down in Ohio and taken into custody Monday night.
Todd Kiester's former girlfriend said he made sexual advances over her objections at his home in Brookline last October and he used force including a foot to the neck and physical blows to restrain her.
When she broke away, she reported the incident at the Zone 6 police station.
Once the legal process began, Kiester was ordered to stand trial on charges including sexual assault, indecent assault and unlawful restraint.
The domestic nature of the charges shouldn't be taken lightly, according to Pittsburgh Action Against Rape.
"Seventy percent of the time it's somebody you know and just because they're your boyfriend or your husband or somebody – anybody that you know – sex without consent is sexual assault and or rape depending on the circumstances," Alison Hall, a PAAR spokesperson, said.
But when Kiester didn't show up at a court appearance, his bond was revoked and he took a car from his employer at a local car dealership and ended up in Columbiana, Ohio, where Lt. Jack Kearney and others took him into custody.
"He had two suitcases, a large size suitcase and a medium size that were completely packed," says Kearney. "He had his birth certificate, social security card and his passport, so we don't know where he was going, but you definitely don't need a passport to come to court."
Kiester remains in an Ohio jail awaiting extradition.
