Local First Responder A Finalist In National Contest
BRIDGEWATER (KDKA) -- Kevin Margetic nears the end of another 12-hour shift at Medic Rescue of Bridgewater. It's all in a day's work. Make that part of a day.
It's one of three jobs that helped him gain national attention on the show "America's Most Wanted."
He's one of eight finalists selected from more than a thousand for the honor of first responder.
Margetic is a paramedic, a firefighter and a police officer. His day's work would be a week for some.
"Twelve-hour shift at Medic Rescue, and then eight-hour shift at the police department," he says, "so usually the fire calls come in whenever I'm responding, or while I'm sleeping."
He's spent 13 years as police officer, 22 years as paramedic and 26 years as a volunteer fire fighter.
"My mother started me at a young age, taking me down to the fire department," Margetic said. "She was a volunteer firefighter herself."
Banners and posters urge residents to support a favorite son.
