Local DNC Reaction
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) --- From the moment she walked onto the stage, First Lady Michelle Obama wowed the partisan crowd. And while she never mentioned the multi-millionaire Romneys, she reminded delegates and the country of the Obamas' own middle class life just four years ago.
"See, our life before moving to Washington was filled with simple joys. Saturday at soccer games. Sundays at grandma's house. And a date night for Barack and me was either dinner or a movie because as an exhausted mom I couldn't stay awake for both," First Lady Michelle Obama says.
And Mrs. Obama did not shy away from controversy.
"He believes that women are more than capable of making their own choices about their own bodies and our health care. That's what my husband stands for," First Lady Michelle Obama continues.
Pittsburgh delegate Amanda Green Hawkins was in the audience, and talked via satellite to KDKA political editor Jon Delano.
Delano: "How do you think the First Lady did?"
Green Hawkins: "I thought the First Lady did a wonderful job showing compassion and humanity and concern for the country."
It was a common reaction which raised questions with some on whether tonight's speaker, former President Bill Clinton, can do as well.
"I think Bill Clinton -- President Bill Clinton speak before -- and he is quite engaging, I will give you that. But I think he may also have to take a step back for the First Lady after last night," Green Hawkins noted. "I'm sure he'll forgive me for that."
