Local Couple Switching Allegiances For Pens-Bruins Series
MOUNT LEBANON (KDKA) -- At first glance, you'd think you're in a suburb of Boston.
Bruins' jerseys and pictures adorn the walls, and a Bruins' shirt sits on the back of Beth Bartkowski - wife of Rick and mother of Matt, Boston Bruins defenseman.
It's a little tough at the office letting the folks know I'm a Bruins fan," Rick, a longtime Pens fan, tells KDKA-TV Sports. "Your son playing pro doesn't get any better than this. We wish the Pens well."
Beth disagrees.
"We wish the Bruins better," she says, realizing this won't go over well in Pittsburgh.
"We might be moving to Boston after this," she says with a laugh. "Pittsburgh might boot us out."
Not likely, still, this isn't Matt's first taste of the Cup.
While his name isn't engraved on Lord Stanley's chalice, Matt was a backup with the Bruins when they won the Cup in 2011 and he skated with it, and got a championship ring.
"I was crying," Beth says. "Every game he plays, it's nerve-wracking if it's against the Pens or not. As a parent you sit there on pins and needles every game."
"What could be better than a kid from Pittsburgh growing up watching Mario and Jagr, now playing with Jagr, coming back to Pittsburgh playing in one of the Stanley Cup rounds," Rick adds.
