Local Boy Loses Mother To Cancer, Now Raising Awareness In Her Memory

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - Last year, Lisa Elaine Gallagher succumbed to brain cancer. Before she passed, the last thing she gave her 14-year-old son, Jack, was a pair of shoes endorsed by his favorite baseball player - L.A. Clippers basketball star Chris Paul.

When he grew out of them, he placed the shoes (named CP3) near his mother's grave site with her initials L.E.G. written on them with the hope Paul would put her initials on his shoes during a game.

The photo went viral online and Paul found out about it.

Paul wore her initials on his shoes during a game against Detroit in memory of Lisa this past November. With that, awareness and tens of thousands of dollars were raised for the American Cancer Society.

Thursday, Jack was invited by Paul to watch another NBA game. This time in Cleveland and he got to meet Cavilers superstar LeBron James.

"KDKA Morning News" host Larry Richert accompanied Jack - along with members of the American Cancer Society - to the Cavilers game last night.

Larry says that Paul wore the initials on his shoes again last night and that Jack is continuing to raise awareness and money.

Larry says that Jack told him it isn't about him; it's about helping other people.
