Local Artist's New Arts Festival Exhibit Shows Wall-To-Wall Creativity
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival has a new exhibit this year called "The Art House at the Arts Festival" by local multi-disciplinary artist, Vanessa German.
Vanessa created the original Art House as an open art studio for kids to get off the streets and get creative in Homewood. She's now bringing the spirit of that project to the festival.
The colors jump off the walls of what was once a little shed, now transformed into "The Art House at the Arts Festival."
KDKA's Kristine Sorensen: "How is this like your Art House in Homewood?"
Vanessa: "Art House in Homewood is covered almost floor to ceiling in art. Imagine a year's worth of making paintings and sculptures, and we cover everything."
Vanessa's open studio for the kids started on her front porch, then grew to its own house.
Vanessa's energy is infectious. She's not only a painter but also a sculptor, actress, designer and poet.
"The Three Rivers Arts Festival is full of beautiful art you can see. But if you or your kids want to be the artist, you've gotta cross right over the bridge," Vanessa said.
The paintings all say "imagine."
It's the word Vanessa chose to send home with the families who visit the Art House hoping it will inspire them as she's been inspired by the kids in Homewood who make the Art House a home.
