Liquor Control Board To Permit Home Delivery Of Alcohol
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- You can now get wine and liquor without leaving your home in Pennsylvania.
It used to be that you could order alcohol online from Liquor Control Board and have it shipped to a state store where you would pick it up, but the LCB has now started a pilot program where they'll ship it right your home.
You should know that it will cost you $14 to have one to three bottles delivered, which is twice the price of having it shipped to a store.
Liz Deemer from East Liberty said, "If you can get what you want, it would be a great idea because you don't have to come and find a place to park."
But you can't order all the items you see in liquor stores. In fact, it's only about 2,000 items that are available right now and many of them you can't buy in the stores.
Also, because of concerns that this could make it easier for underage kids to get alcohol, adults have to sign for it when it arrives.
"The individual receiving the product and signing for it must present valid ID," said Stacey Witalec, Liquor Control Board spokesperson. It will be delivered by UPS.
The LCB says it could expand the available items in time, but will evaluate how the program is going in three months. They started the program last week without publicizing it.
"We wanted to do it as a pilot program and really test how efficient and effective it would be for consumers," said Witalec.
Yesterday, on Cyber Monday, the LCB offered free shipping and the option of having it delivered to your door, and Witalec says they sold triple the number of bottles than they did last year.
