LHP Kris Johnson To Make First Big League Start Today
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — The Pirates have recalled left-handed pitcher Kris Johnson from Triple-A Indianapolis and he is scheduled to make his first Major League start this afternoon in place of Jeff Locke against the Cardinals. In his only other big league appearance on August 18 vs. Arizona, Johnson became the third Pirates pitcher to throw as many as 6.0 innings of relief in his Major League debut.
When he was called up today, Johnson had an International League leading 2.39 ERA while also being tied for seventh in the league with 10 wins. Johnson will be the 12th different Pittsburgh pitcher to start a game this season.
The Pirates also selected the contract of right-handed relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth from Indianapolis and recalled outfielder Travis Snider from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 15-day D.L.
Also, the newly acquired first baseman, Justin Morneau will start at first base today and bat sixth.
