Letang & Michalek Have Concussions
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Penguins defensemen Kris Letang and Zbynek Michalek were diagnosed with concussions, as announced by head coach Dan Bylsma after Monday's morning skate.
Both suffered their concussions in the third period at Montreal Nov. 26.
There is no timetable for either player's return, which follows team precedent. Neither Sidney Crosby nor Tyler Kennedy had any type of timetable placed on their return from concussions.
Letang has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 26.
Other injury news:
- Defenseman Deryk Engelland is listed as day-to-day with an unspecified leg injury sustained in Saturday's game at Carolina. He did not play Monday night against Boston.
- The Penguins called up defenseman Alexandre Picard from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to aide the team's defensive woes. He dressed Monday night against Boston.
- Forward Jordan Staal played Monday night with a visor to protect stitches under his left eye. Staal was struck by a puck Saturday night at Carolina.
- Sidney Crosby suffered a knee-to-knee hit with Chris Kunitz and Evgeni Malkin was head-butted Monday night against Boston. Both players sat out for a period of time but were able to return and finish the game.
