Leon Ford On Grand Jury Decision: "I Have No Faith In The System At All"
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – People around the world tuned in to hear the grand jury's decision in Ferguson Monday night.
And among them was a local victim of a police shooting.
Leon Ford was shot and paralyzed during a traffic stop last year.
He was recently found not guilty and has been very vocal about the incident and charges against him.
"I have no faith in the system at all," said Ford.
For says he's not surprised at the grand jury's decision in St. Louis.
"I knew they weren't going to indict him months ago," he said.
White Police officer Darren Wilson was not indicted by the grand jury for the shooting death of unarmed black teen Michael Brown in August in Ferguson, Missouri.
"Think about the message America is sending to young black men," Ford said.
For was left paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair after he was shot during a traffic stop in Pittsburgh's East End in 2012.
He was charged after fleeing from officers during the stop.
They opened fire after fearing for their lives.
In September, Ford was found not guilty of aggravated assault against Officer David Durbish. But the jury was left deadlocked on some misdemeanor charges.
"I still see David Durbish patrolling the street three times a week," said Ford. "Mike Brown, unarmed, he was shot. See what happened to Darren Wilson? What happens when we get fed up?"
"When you walk with God, you get a while different view of things and they will have to answer in some way," he added.
